Edward Alan Richmond
1931 - 2023
Edward Alan Richmond, also known as Ed, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2023, at the age of 92 in Murray, Utah. Ed was born on June 1, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Carl S Richmond and Ann Birrell Richmond Phillips.
Ed's early years were marked by resilience and adaptability. Following the passing of his father when he was just six years old, Ed and his family relocated several times. He gained a large extended family when his mom and stepfather, Robert Phillips married.
Ed attended West High School. Ed and Joanne West married and raised their family in Rose Park. Later divorced, he married Hazel Ames and spent 38 years in Central Florida. He moved back to Murray, Utah in 2015.
Throughout his life, Ed was known for his strong work ethic and his lighthearted sense of humor. He excelled in the construction trade, owning his own Dump Truck and working for Utah Sand & Gravel. He also worked for notable companies such as Enoch Smith Construction, Smith Brother's Construction, and Salt Lake City Corporation and worked many years in Florida. Ed's expertise as a Heavy Equipment Operator and Operating Engineer earned him respect within the industry. He belonged to Operating Engineers Local 3.
Outside of work, Ed had a passion for cars. He built his own 1932 Ford Roadster in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s and enjoyed drag racing. He followed Nascar closely, with Jimmie Johnson being his favorite driver. Ed loved to go to the track and watch his grandson and great granddaughter race. Ed loved attending car shows in Florida, California, and Utah, and his vast knowledge of cars from different eras made him a captivating storyteller. Recently he was able to remember every car he had owned. In Florida, he also found joy in playing shuffleboard and even earned a Bronze Medal. He loved playing cards with friends and was very social. He had many pets throughout his lifetime, and we can just imagine the reunion he had with them.
Ed's family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his children: Michael E Richmond, Barbara R Priestley (Don), Connie Richmond, and his grandchildren: Bryan Solorio, Derrick Banks, Lori Banks, Corie Loya (Berto), Holly Banks, Kelly Richmond, Jordan Priestley (Aimee), Adam Richmond, Alan Richmond, Brittany Priestley Atkins, Courtney Richmond (Greg), Angela Kallam (Daniel), along with 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
