Richard, your gentle heart and faith-filled spirit shone through every thoughtful act of kindness. Your generosity overflowed, reaching out to everyone in a way only you could. The laughter you brought us will echo forever in our hearts as we remember your joyful presence at our deaf community sport events. More than just the best basketball stat keeper, you were a beacon of friendship and love. We'll sorely miss you, yet with every shot made, we'll feel your enduring inspiration!

Richard - you didn't call me or text me that you weren't feeling well. I missed not having the opportunity to chat with you before you departed from this earthly life.
Richard, the best memory I could think of is riding in a car with you on the way home from school or from home to school. I was led to believe that when Larry couldn't ride with us. We had so much fun in the back seat of your sister Barbara's old black and white car. This was the best memory and I will hold this in my heart forever. I will not share our funnies and secrets. Even more, when we flew to Gallaudet College back in 1976, on the plane ride - you weren't calm so I became your "comfort blanket" even when we were detained in Chicago O'Hara Airport. Do you remember how angry I was? You just sat there and did not know what to expect. But, finally - the pilots realized that being detained was a big mistake! Lol...he put us in the First Class seats. Remember?
What else can I say? Richard, you will be missed. I will miss seeing you sitting in the front row by the TV screen at church. Thank you for loving my signs when I lead the music at church. Thank you for asking me to sing some songs in ASL to you. That means the world to me. Richard, I guess you will be watching me from high above. Go ahead and laugh if I make crazy choices. You know how looney I was for way too many years. By the way, Richard --- now you get to see my two daughters -- my beautiful daughters. Clara-Belle Warren Mortensen-Nelson and Meghannie Louie Mortensen-Nelson. Please tell them all about me! Please just watch and make sure that these girls of mine don't go into mischief.
You know being away from Facebook was to keep me sane and focus on writing books that I have neglected for way too long. I am so sorry that you wouldn't have the opportunity to fact-check our funnies during car rides from school to home. However, lucky - I have been a faithful journal writer since I was 10 years old. This will be the place I will need to return and get the information.
I love you Richard Dale Oscarson. I know I have not been very affectionate lately because I have been so focused on my craziness with my travels and flipping our house.
I bid you adieu. Farewell, my friend, my buddy during car rides back in the Elementary Days.
This is what I want Barbara to read and to know that I have known you much longer than anyone else on this planet Earth. I know you agree with me. Dang you, Richard -- [you know this phrase my special phrase only to you that no one would ever understand!!! remember my frequent phrase to you when we were at Gallaudet! LOL].
Thank you, my friend.
May Flight of Angels sing to thy rest! My friend and buddy.
With love from a friend that you know and love well -- Kristi Lee Mortensen aka Lady Orange but you always called me Lady in Orange. LOL, I like that!

Richard was a one of a kind person who we'll never see the likes of again... The first time I met him he crashed into me roller skating at the classic rink on state street.. we laughed and helped each other up and back to business we went.
Little did I know that this would spark a lifelong friendship that I will cherish for the rest of mine..
He taught me sign language and he loved music.. I remember one annual birthday party of his that I attended back in the 80's where I was asked to bring some albums to play... he sat there on the floor next to the speaker with the lyrics inserts and signed the words while I sang...
It was the most beautiful thing ever!! Everyone clapped and cheered for us and his smile ill never forget...
He was a brilliant soul and knew the meaning of being a great friend.. He touched many lives and will never be forgotten..
Thank you Richard for enriching my life and making this world a better place to be!
I will always love you and be your sweetheart❤️
Til we meet again in paradise my awesome friend ...
