Obituary of Mary Emma Maestas

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Emma Maestas 05/18/1970 - 05/31/2023 It’s with great sorrow and a heavy heart we announce that one of most beautiful, cheerful, and playful souls has taken the hand of her guardian angel to be back home with our lord. Emma passed comfortably Wednesday morning at 5:27 AM. Born to Mary Quintana and Fred Maestas in Alamosa, Colorado. She fought a long and rough battle from a very young age. To her this was a part of her everyday routine but not once did she use it as an excuse or let anything slow her down. She found comfort and empowerment in being bigger than her illness. She may have been small but she had the biggest personality and always found something to be excited about. She appreciated the small things this life had to offer. She was known for her dancing, singing, her long braids (since she loved Laura Ingalls), and the color red. She was even saving up to buy herself a red convertible sports car. Emma loved watching musicals but these were always her honorable mentions: La Bamba, Grease, Sister Act, Dirty Dancing, and Pretty woman. She also thoroughly enjoyed watching Little House on the Prairie and COPS. If you knew of Miss Emma, you’d understand she always had to be the center of attention. From playing her ukelele while singing Ritchie Valens to playing dress up and bullying all the aunties, uncles, and their kids. She loved to speak her mind.. and oh man did she get a kick out of watching you react to what she had to say. She has touched countless lives over the span of her lifetime and it’s difficult to forget someone who gave everyone so much to remember. Death may have taken her from us but it will grant her eternal rest and serenity. To be someone so significant that god hand picked the prettiest soul for the perfect empty space in his garden says a lot about her character. She’s loved with love beyond telling, yet missed with grief beyond all tears. Emma is survived by: Mary Quintana (Mother), Her Siblings Redda, Sonny (Maxine), Mitch (Jerri), Shelly and Sheilla. As well as 86 Nieces and Nephews. Preceded in Death by: (Grandmother) Emma Maestas, (Father) Fred Maestas, (Sister) Vivian Vasquez , (Brother In-laws) Raul Batalla & Michael Motorcycle Benavidez. (Aunts & Uncles): Olive Jaramillo, Cecil Ellsworth, Luis Tafoya, Rudy Ruybal, Juan Benavidez, Joe & Sally Herrera, Joe & Tillie Granado, Joe & Helena Espinoza, Ross & Elsie Valdez, and Eufelia Espinoza. Acknowledgment(s): We would like to give a big thank you to the Physicians and Nurses at St. Joseph Facility and The University Hospital for helping us with her care and always making her feel at home.
