Obituary of Flora Afton Heuett May
Please share a memory of Flora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
1937-2021
Flora passed away peacefully in her sleep on the afternoon of Tuesday August 17, 2021. She is now reunited with all of her loved ones on the other side of the veil including her recently departed husband, Wesley. Flora is survived by her, children: Judy, Jack, Jim (Laura), Janet (Brian), and her sister Joyce (Butch) Evans.
For her entire life, Flora was a very dedicated, beloved wife to Wesley and mother to Judy, Jack, Jim and Janet. She was also the greatest grandma/granny to 30 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild all of whom she loved featuring in pictures on her living room walls.
Flora Afton Heuett was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 29, 1937. She was the oldest daughter of Andrew Jackson and Gladys Wilson Heuett. Flora was talented in many things; she played the piano, the organ and discovered a talent for dancing at a very early age and went on to perform and teach ballet, pointe, and tap. She grew up in Salt Lake City and attended West High School where she met and married her eternal companion J. Wesley May. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 7, 1955, and had 4 beautiful children Judy, Jack, Jim, and Janet.
In her life, Flora served as a primary teacher and compassionate leader for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In her calling as the ward drama/dance director she directed many award-winning road shows. She also served a stake mission with Wesley and served as a Jordan River Baptistry temple worker for 8 years. She always credited her callings as an opportunity to learn additional gospel foundations, because she didn’t join the church of Jesus Christ until the age of 14. She was full of wisdom and unconditional love to guide anyone that needed advice on life. Flora was a righteous, kind, and free-spoken woman that will be so dearly missed by her family as she reunites with her beloved Wesley forever.
Funeral services will be held August 24th.
